Why Write a Plugin

Last week I wrote about Really Easy Responsive Columns in WordPress. In that post I recommended using Justin Tadlock’s Grid Columns plugin which did a great job of adding columns to your posts. The one downside was it didn’t collapse down to a single column at smaller widths.

The Problem

What I was after was a plugin that would let me put columns into wordpress blogs. I didn’t want to be tied to a particular theme. I just wanted a plugin that would work with any theme at all. I also wanted the columns to collapse down into one column for mobile sizes.

My friend Billy and I were building an app that took the latest football (soccer!) fixtures and gave the weather forecast for during the match.

To get the fixtures we had to send dates formatted a certain way and we received the fixture dates formatted slightly differently. The forecast data used yet another time format. We were getting ourselves in a bit of a muddle! More…

How to write? Apparently the answer is to keep writing and then write some more. Then edit it. Then get writing again.

I really wish I was a more fluent writer and so I’m going to start writing as if I was a more fluent writer and see where that leads me. I’m commiting myself to a weekly post and not let myself get hung up on how little I know or what a bad writer I am.
